| hello aacfers!
is anyone else amazed about how quickly dead week and finals came? that just zipped by without me even noticing...
this week at
large group, we will be doing something we've never done before! in the
words of a leader who will remain anonymous, "it's kind of like speed
dating, but it's NOT." haha.. we want to teach you guys about the
simplicity of the gospel, and how easy it really is to begin a
spiritual conversation with your friends, especially those who don't
know Jesus yet. what we'll be doing is a little hard to explain... but
i guess you'll have to come on friday and find out! it'll be fun, don't
worry.
christmas banquetis
this saturday, 5pm at FBC. i know all of US have already bought tickets
(*cough* ahem), but in case you haven't bought one for your friend yet,
it's not too late! remember that this is the whole purpose of the
night: to present the gospel to our non-christian friends, both in
action and in word. it's not too late to invite people, so if you've
been saying to yourself, "yeah, i should invite that person to
banquet.." just do it! for those of you who already have, good on ya!
let's pray seriously for saturday, that God would do something amazing!
winter retreat
is just around the corner, believe it or not. our theme this year is
"Intimacy with God," spoken by pastor Ted Kang from SJCAC. he and his
wife have two lovely girls, whom you will get to meet at retreat. i've
talked to them a lot about retreat, and they are both praying hard for
God to move in our fellowship at this time. for all of you who went
last year, you know that God did something completely unexpected, and
it was a huge blessing to us all. keep praying for this year's retreat,
that God will move us even more powerfully, and that we would come back
to our campus changed! (**sign ups are this LAST WEEK at large group!
don't miss out!)
theme: Intimacy with God
time: January 12-14, 2007
location: Lake Lopez Canyon speaker: pastor Ted Kang
price: $90 (for signing up by this week)
prayer meeting is tonight, 7:30pm. please talk to sam park about location.
i
hope that each and every one of you will be blessed in this last week
of the quarter! and bring your camera to banquet : ] see you all on
friday!
Love, AACF

random ramblings from nat:
d.e.v.o.t.i.o.n.s : for those of you who need encouragement in hard times... (for example, right now in dead week)
"Don't be afraid, I've redeemed you. I've called your name. You're mine.
When you're in over your head,
I'll be there with you. When you're in rough waters, you will not go
down. When you're between a rock and a hard place, it won't be a dead
end - Because I am God, your personal God, the Holy of Israel, your Savior. I paid a huge price for you: all of Egypt, with rich Cush and Seba thrown in!
That's how much you mean to me! That's how much I love you! I'd sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you." (Isaiah 43:2-4 MSG)
when you buy something really expensive, you take lots of
effort to keep it nice and protect it. remember how nice you kept your
shiny new ipod in the beginning? you bought a nice little case for it,
and double checked every five minutes if it was still in your pocket.
God is the same way with you, except once you get old or bumped or
scratched he doesn't treat you any differently. he paid so much for
you, and he'll do anything to keep you his. that's how much his love is
for you. if he could trade all of the world for a guaranteed promise of
having your whole heart, he'd do it instantly.
that's why he doesn't condemn you when you're in the ruts. he
doesn't look at you in your shameful act and shake the finger. he
promises that he is WITH us, through thick and thin. because he is our
personal God, not just some far-off God in the distance, he understands
your difficult times. even when the entire world doesn't get it, he
understands. and he knows even better than you do.
no matter how long it's been since you've come down on your
knees in front of God, he is still faithful. no matter what rough time
you've gone through this quarter, he is still faithful. no matter how
angry you are at God, he is still faithful. and no matter how distant
his love feels right now, he is still faithful.
Lord, I pray for those who
need your love today, that you would make your love obvious to them. I
pray that they can see how much you love them, how much you value their
lives and their futures. During difficult times, I pray that we would
be able to see beyond the circumstance and look to your glory. I know
that your ways are higher than ours, and that we cannot even begin to
imagine the amazing futures that we have in You. Keep our eyes focused
on you, through finals week and through this season. Teach us how to
live for you each day.

| This week, come
hear Peter Kim (alumni) speak on how we can take on the responsibility
of reaching the lost in a personal way. to function well as one body,
we all need to own this calling that God has given us. it's not only
our duty, but should be the deepest fulfillment of joy in our lives!
come to find out who won the pumpkin pie too...
This weekend is
men's and women's ministry! the men will be doing a bishop's hike, and
the girls have a secret surprise for their meeting. come tomorrow and
find out more about it!
Next week, because of the long weekend, there will be NO LARGE GROUP meeting, but we will still have potluck dinners! come tomorrow to sign up! also, on thursday night we will have our
new testament bible reading! you will be completely blessed, so make sure you don't miss out!
Christmas party
is
right around the corner! We really want this to be an opportunity to
bring our friends to fellowship and let them see what Christianity is
really all about. Save the date: Saturday, December 9th.
Make a difference day was
amazing! we had a huge turnout, and we really got our hands dirty
helping people out. it was some tough work, but we made a difference in
people's lives! a pat on the back to all of you who made it out!
remember that what we do for the least of them, we do for Jesus.
Our website is
finally up and running! If you see Janice around, give her a huge hug
for all her effort! It's incredible: you'll find all the information
you're looking for, and more. Sign up for our google group, find out
about small groups, prayer, upcoming events... you can even submit
prayer requests! Check it out at http://www.aacf.calpoly.edu .
Thanks so much for reading! see you tomorrow!

often
i catch myself patting myself on the back for doing something nice to
others. whether it be complimenting someone, or calling them to catch
up, or making it a point to hang out with them... i hear in my head:
nat, you are a good friend. you've done well. but really...? how do i
know that what i'm giving is enough? whether it's to others or to God,
where's the line of 'enough'?
someone once told me: give till it hurts.
the focus here is not necessarily on the monetary value, or the hours
of time spent, but its on how much of a sacrifice it is to you. God
doesn't care about how often you go to church, or how many times you
pray to him, or even how nice of a person you attempt to be. he wants
to know your heart, and where you stand with him. time and time again
in the old testament, God tells the people that he's sick and tired of
their heartless sacrifices.
Amos
5:21-24 shows God's frustration in people doing religious Christianity
without the heart in it. God actually hates and despises their
religious-ness.
they're not giving because they want to, but they give because they're told to.
so
i had to ask myself: nat, where is your heart? what is your motive in
giving? is it to please God and glorify him, or is it for your own
pride? do you give till it hurts, or only so much to be a small
inconvenience? tough questions, but necessary nevertheless.
the holidays are a season of giving. i challenge you this
year to give till it hurts. because anyone can throw a can of food into
a bin, but sacrificing something that means something to you.. that's a
different story. i pray that we would all have the same attitude as
david. that we would say: i will not offer to the lord my God sacrifices that cost me nothing. | | |
| This week,
pastor
Aaron from FBC will be speaking about how to be bold with our faith.
Gary spoke about the lost, Brian told us that its PEOPLE that God
values, and now we will learn how to get over ourselves and GO out
there and say it! It's a special week, because Aaron will also be
playing worship for us while he speaks! Different, yes, and you will be
completely blessed! Come to the Chumash Auditorium in the UU instead of our normal room, UU220. Afterwards, we have the whole room to play games, so you don't want to miss out!
Anyone for pumpkin pie??
This week at large group, we are having a raffle for a pumpkin pie!
IT'S OUR LAST WEEK! so bring your cans, and remind your friend to as well.
The challenge: guess the weight of our pumpkin (You'll see it in person)
Your ticket: bring canned food,
or donate $2 to the raffle! The money will go to buying canned food for
the homeless shelter this winter season.
The prize: a homemade pumpkin pie!
Prayer in the UU Plaza is
going from 7am-7pm all this week! It's an inter-fellowship prayer time
with many campus groups, including crusaders and PCFers. If you
normally hang out in the UU between classes, why don't you come check
it out? And grab a couple of friends too. What an amazing way to be
lights on our campus!
Make a difference day is
coming up on Saturday, October 28th! (It's a national event, you know!)
THIS is the opportunity to show others at Cal Poly what AACF is all
about! We love helping out other people, and more than that we love
showing others the love of Christ. In the morning, we are meeting up in
Chumash (on-campus) to have FREE breakfast and meet other campus groups
who are volunteering during the day. Then we go out and make a
difference! Sign up with Toby or Aaron during large group this week.

i
figured i would let the word of God speak to you this week, instead of
me 'randomly rambling'. i pray that one word from him, one phrase or
sentence would be worth more than a thousand from me. God spoke to my
heart through these verses this week, so i hope that you would take the
time to let God speak to you as well. have an awesome weekend and
cherish every moment that God has given to you!
if
people can 't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves;
but when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
be generous to the poor - you'll never go hungry; shut your eyes to their needs, and run a gauntlet of curses.
just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.
God has no use for the prayers of the people who won't listen to him.
A tenderhearted person lives a blessed life; a hardhearted person lives a hard life.

This week,
come here Brian Plunkett speak on
what God values. It's kind of a vague topic, but I promise he won't
speak so vaguely. For those of you who don't know, Brian Plunkett is
involved with the youth group at Shoreline Calvary Chapel. He's come to
speak to us several times, and we love having him come back! Be ready
for God to move you!
Decorate pumpkin cookies after
large group this week! Now you can have your cookie, and eat it too!
We'll all be over at the Eto house, frosting and making some pumpkins
look darn yummy. And if you're not the creative decorating type, you
can come to just eat them!

random ramblings from nat:
the
cold weather means holidays are just around the corner! and two words
come into my head: family and food. ive been on a cooking/baking craze,
and its great because i love to cook, and i love to eat! cooking meals
or baking goodies for people i care about just warms my heart. i
probably enjoy it more than the people eating my stuff.. : ]
but anyway, ive realized that as a college student, there
isnt too much flexibility to spend my money carelessly. it's nice to
eat out once in a while, but i also have to be satisfied with my
less-elegant meals. it might mean waiting on those pair of shoes ive
wanted for so long.. i guess it goes along with this idea of a wartime
lifestyle, that we should live simply for a purpose.
so i decided that instead of spending money, i love the people
around me in other ways. spending real quality time with them, praying
for them, or baking them cookies.. it's funny how much a sweet
compliment could brighten someone's day, more than money spent on
them. of course, its a lot easier to just buy something for my friends.
but how much more does it mean when you think of something that would really make them smile?
i
challenge you to do that this week: find a friend who needs some
encouragement. be creative and think of something that would really
make their day. bless them in an unexpected way, and watch that frown
turn upside down! : ] and since they're so contagious, i can almost
guarantee a smile on your face too.
